Lanny Barnes aka “Lanny Oakley” is a three-time Olympian, World and National champion, educator, and artist- dedicated to exploring the outer edges of human potential—physically, mentally, and creatively.

A 3x Olympian in the sport of biathlon, Lanny competed on the world’s biggest stage, including the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics—an experience marked not only by competition, but by one of the most inspiring moments in Olympic history. After Lanny fell ill during final trials and was unable to complete qualifying races, her twin sister and teammate made the selfless decision to give Lanny her Olympic spot, demonstrating that legacy is not only built on medals, but on character.

Transitioning from winter sport to the tactical and precision shooting world, Lanny became a National and World Champion in multiple action shooting disciplines and is currently pursuing several World Records and World Championship titles across rifle, pistol, and shotgun platforms. She is also known for her trick-shooting.

From 2023-2025 Lanny served as Chief Experience Officer at PrairieFire/Staccato Vegas in Nevada, where she led immersive training programs for military, law enforcement, and exciting, immersive, and action-packed civilian shooter experiences. She then headed back to her ranch in Colorado to focus on competing and instruction. Her instruction uniquely integrates the physiological and psychological components of performance—teaching students how to manage stress, control the fight-or-flight response, and execute with precision under pressure.

She is also a professional artist, painting since 2000 through her platform, The Olympian Artist, where she captures the spirit of athletic pursuit and the internal climb toward excellence.

Her newest initiative, The Ascent, reflects her life’s philosophy: performance is not built in the spotlight—it is built in repetition, discipline, and the quiet standards no one sees. The Ascent is a long-term commitment to raising the standard—in sport, in mindset, and in life—challenging individuals to climb higher than they thought possible.

Lanny and her sister dedicate much of their time to service, speaking at schools, 4-H clubs, Boys & Girls Clubs, and youth organizations about goal-setting, leadership, and healthy living. They partner with Freedom Hunters and OE4A to take wounded veterans and terminally ill children on hunts, and they actively support efforts to combat human trafficking through organizations such as St. Catherine's Mission.

Whether on snow, on the range, in the classroom, or on canvas, Lanny’s mission remains constant: to pursue excellence relentlessly—and to help others rise in the process.
